Stop and Smell the Roses

Rose garden at Lawrence Park

Public rose gardens provide the community an up-close view of roses in a semi-natural setting.  Large and iconic rose gardens are commonplace in large destinations cities such as New York, Portland, and Sacramento. Did you know you can stop and smell the roses much closer to home? Amongst our expansive park system lives four rose gardens where you can view colorful arrays and smell the pleasant aromas from the roses at Laguna Town Hall, Lichtenberger Park, Lawrence Park, and Rose Garden Park.

Caring for roses takes precision, patience, and persistence and our rose gardens receive all of this and more from a very dedicated group of volunteers. They spend hours each week doing the work that keeps our roses producing an abundance of color for all to enjoy. Our rose garden volunteers have the expertise and know the ins and outs of rose care. These horticultural artisans treat each rose bush as a creative canvas and take great pride in the fruits of their labor.

As you journey through your park system, please add these wonderful rose gardens to your itinerary. Visit them different times of the year so you can see the transition roses make throughout the seasons. You are welcome to stop and smell the roses, but watch out for the thorns and please, do not cut the roses.
