Elk Grove’s newest play space will officially open singing the praises of one of Elk Grove’s pioneer farming families, the Kammerers, during a grand opening celebration on Tuesday, July 23 at 6:00 p.m.
Four Kammerer families purchased land in the Franklin/Elk Grove area in the early 20th century and grew wheat and grapes. For decades, the families and their descendants volunteered in many religious, charitable, and service organizations.
The Kammerer Family legacy will accompany a 13.6-acre community park designed with a musical theme inspired by the street names chosen for the Sterling Meadows subdivision including Upbeat, Allegra, Dynamic and Ensemble, to name a few. The layout of interior pathways is designed to resemble a key music element – the treble clef. Music-themed play equipment, water play elements, benches and plazas which include pavement areas inlaid with musical notes and symbols support the theme.
Other park amenities include an amphitheater, skate area, soccer field, basketball court, tennis courts, adult fitness equipment, two separate age-appropriate playgrounds, a sprayground, walking/jogging trail, and shaded picnic areas with barbecues and game tables.
Opening festivities will include a dedication ceremony, complimentary refreshments, games, and music by the School of Rock.
Kammerer Family Park is the 98th park constructed in Elk Grove and one of 7 parks jointly owned and operated in Laguna Ridge by the City and Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD).
