CERT Disaster Preparedness Classes Train to be a resource to your family, neighbors, coworkers, and emergency responders should a disaster strike. Adults are invited to join Cosumnes CSD’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The CERT program provides training in disaster survival and rescue skills for average citizens to be able to provide vital services when emergency resources are depleted in a disaster. Lessons are taught by instructors from the Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD) Fire Department and, Elk Grove Police Department, and the Galt Police Department. Academy participants must commit to attend class one night a week – Tuesday or Thursday – from 6-9 p.m. for seven weeks. Each academy includes 24 hours of instruction and culminates in a final disaster training exercise from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on the Saturday following the last night of instruction.
