  • BIOGRAPHY The Stephenson name refers to a lineage of family members who were active in the civic, economic and educational development of the district. The first family members to move to the Elk Grove area were brothers James and Igal Stephenson. Each brother established their families and succeeded in the agriculture and education fields. William Thomas, son of Igal, was a member of the Prairie School Board for several years while his son, Dwight, was a trustee of the Franklin School and was on the Sacramento County Board of Education. The park site is located next to a school.
