• How can I find out about job openings?

• How can I apply?

• I want to apply for several of the jobs listed. Do I need to fill out a separate application for each job classification?

  Yes. Every application is evaluated separately based on the classification for which you are applying. It is therefore necessary to turn in a separate application for each job classification.

• Do I have to sign the application?

  Your signature verifies that the materials submitted are true/accurate to the best of your knowledge. Once signed and submitted, your application packet becomes a legal document. If you do not want us to contact your present or previous employers, then you should still sign the bottom of the application but indicate not to contact them in each work experience box you complete.

• My resume includes all the information you should need. Can I just submit my resume and a cover letter to apply for a job?

  You must submit a completed application for each position you desire. You must also complete and submit any additional information listed on the job announcement. This may include a supplemental questionnaire, samples of your work, or copies of licenses/degrees/ transcripts. You may attach a resume and cover letter; however the information on the resume can not substitute for and portion of the completed application.

• What happens if I move or have some other change after I apply?

  Directly contact Human Resources at (916) 405-7190 or e-mail us at HumanResources@yourcsd.com with your changes. If you did not include an e-mail address on your application it is very important that you inform us of any physical address changes. Even though we contact applicants via their e-mail addresses, an applicant's official postal service address is still used for official records. It is important that we have your correct mailing address.

• I saw a job announcement and think I'm qualified, but I'm not sure. What should I do?

  Each job announcement lists the required qualifications. Read the requirements carefully to see how they match up to your education and/or experience. The position may require college course work, a specific amount of experience, a license or certificate or set of knowledge and abilities in a specific area. Based on your knowledge and experience, you should be able to determine whether you meet the requirements of the position. If in doubt, submit your application and Human Resources will determine whether or not you meet the requirements. NOTE: Employment background, academic degrees, licenses, certifications and other credentials are subject to confirmation as part of the appointment process.

• How does Human Resources determine if I qualify for the position?

  Human Resources will review your application using the criteria set forth on the job opportunity announcement. It is very important to include all requested information. Please list all paid work experience, licenses, professional affiliations, classes you have taken, training you have received, applicable volunteer work and any other special qualifications you posses which relate to the position for which you are applying. Part time experience will be prorated accordingly. Human Resources will review all the information you provide; however, your minimum qualifications must be clearly stated on the application form. Failure to include requested information (including writing "see resume" on the application in area of experience) will result in rejection of your application. Without accurate and complete information, we will not be able to determine whether or not you meet the minimum qualifications for the job.

• What is the purpose of the supplemental questionnaire?

  A supplemental questionnaire consists of questions related to the experience, education, training, knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the job. For some vacancies the answers to the supplemental questionnaire may be the initial testing process. Please answer each question completely and concisely. Supplemental questionnaire instructions are outlined in the job announcement if a supplemental questionnaire is required for the recruitment in question.

• What happens if I am selected?

  Conditional job offers are made "pending" a physical examination/questionnaire, background check and urine drug screening. If you are working when you receive a conditional job offer DO NOT quit your job until you have been instructed to do so. Employment background, academic degrees, licenses, certifications and other credentials are subject to confirmation as part of the appointment process. The District complies with the Immigration Control and Reform Act of 1986. If offered a position, you will be required to present identification and/or work authorization paperwork. Only documents identified in law or regulation are acceptable. After you have been offered and have accepted a position, be sure that you understand when you will begin, where and to whom you will report on the first day, and whether there are any other steps the hiring department would like you to take before starting work. Be sure to get the telephone number of the person who contacts you for hire in case you have further questions.

• What if I am not selected or interviewed?

  Our objective is to hire the best person for the job, so competition is keen. If you are not immediately successful in getting a position, you may be considered for other vacancies that occur in the same classification. If you see that particular classification opened for a subsequent recruitment you must reapply. All individuals are encouraged to apply for employment with the Cosumnes Community Services District. • What does it mean when a recruitment is listed as "Continuous?"

  Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and processed on a predetermined schedule and/or on an as-needed basis. Any persons qualified for the position may apply. These recruitments may close at any time. If you see a position that is designated "Continuous" that you are interested in it is best to apply as soon as possible.

• How can I tell I am viewing the most current Job Opportunities?

  Our job openings are posted in "real time" meaning it is always up to date and current. If you believe that the page being viewed has not changed try refreshing your screen and you will be assured of seeing the most current version of that page.

• I see that you are notifying applicants of their status in the recruitment via email. What if I don't have email?

  There are several Internet Service Providers that offer free email accounts: Hotmail, Yahoo, or Google to name a few. You can access one of these providers to register for a free email account.

• Is a background check done before I can be hired?

  Yes. All offers of employment are contingent upon the candidate passing a background check. The extensiveness of the background check will depend on the position and area of assignment. Employment background, academic degrees, licenses, certifications and other credentials are all subject to confirmation as part of the background check.

• Does Cosumnes CSD require a physical before I begin work?

  Yes. All offers of employment are contingent upon the candidate meeting the medical standards of the position. A post-offer, pre-employment physical examination is required, which includes drug l testing. Candidates who refuse to submit to testing will be disqualified from the hiring process.

• I require a pre-employment accommodation for disability or religious beliefs. What do I need to do?

  You must contact Human Resources and complete a Pre-Employment Accommodation Request Form. Human Resources will discuss the accommodation options with you and the hiring manager and determine the appropriate accommodation to be provided.

One final thing . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Try not to be discouraged by the length of time taken in the recruitment, or if you do not get hired the first time around. We know that the hiring process in the public sector seems like a long time; however, we want sufficient time to evaluate everyone fairly and find the best person for the job. The time and effort are worth it. If you are not chosen in your first attempt, try again. Candidate pools are different in each recruitment and as you become more familiar with the process, you will be more at ease with successive efforts. Don't give up!
